Tioga County PA was named for the Tioga River and
was created out of
the existing Lycoming County in 1804. This is where you can find cities such as
Mansfield and Wellsboro, take advantage of the educational offerings of
Mansfield University, and explore three state parks within the county's borders.
Outdoor attractions and recreation
are abundant in Tioga County. Ride snowmobiles through the trees in the winter,
go kayaking or canoeing in
the summer, head out on a motorcycle tour of Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon, head
out on a trail ride, or just check out a local maple or trout farm. |

The three state parks are clearly
the prime attractions in Tioga County, however. Hills Creek State Park features
the titular creek that flows into a 137-acre lake. Visitors can swim, fish and
boat
in these lake waters. There are also 102 campsites here, including cabins and
yurts for rent. The variety of wildlife on display is impressive, too,
with bald eagles, bears, deer, beavers, muskrats, turkeys, osprey, groundhogs,
rabbits, loons
and more. |

The so-called "Pennsylvania Grand Canyon"
that's carved by Pine Creek is home to the
two remaining state parks. Colton Point
State Park and Leonard Harrison State Park
both offer hiking trails of varying
difficulty, hunting and fishing
opportunities, and excellent whitewater
streams for canoeing.
